Location

The so-called Lemanic Riviera has attracted people from all over the world from the 18th century. Lord Byron lived here, as did many other British, Russian, and French noblemen. It is beautifully situated at the foot of the Alps, making it a wonderful resort all year through. You can go skiing in winter, or walking in the hills. Its mild climate allows sub-tropical flora to flourish along the edge of Lake Leman. In the summer you can enjoy sailing and swimming in the lake, with the snow-capped mountains providing the perfect backdrop. At the east end of Lake Geneva is the French-speaking canton of Vaud which you can reach by highway and train.

Montreux - Clarens - Territet
Montreux2.JPG (37801 bytes) The most famous place in the area, Montreux has all kinds of luxurious resources: hotels, restaurants, shops, and the Jazz Festival in the summer. If you want to have everything you could possibly wish for close at hand, and you're willing to pay the price, Montreux is an excellent choice.

Clarens, a neighborhood of Montreux, is situated on a plateau with an incredible view of the Alps and Lake Geneva.

Territet, yet another part of Montreux, was the favorite place of Empress Sissi and is close to the Chillon castle.

Vevey
Vev.jpg (167210 bytes) This pleasant little city is the home of Nestlé, and it is nestled on the shore of the lake  a few kilometers west of Montreux. Less chic  than Montreux but far more authentic, Vevey is a very lively place throughout the year. You can even reach Montreux on foot by following the palm tree-lined lakeshore, as both cities are now part of a continuous urban area.
