Eating and drinking in Baden
Home > Tourist Guide > Table of contents > Zurich > Baden and around > Restaurants

For eating, there are plenty of pavement cafés and restaurants along Badstrasse and in the Old Town. The Schwyzerhüsli, Badstrasse 38 (056/222 62 63; closed Sun) is a popular place to sit and watch the world go by, and has plenty of healthy salads as well as substantial Swiss fare, with menus from Fr.17. Rose, Weitegasse 23, is a bright, modern, friendly little place with good food that’s open until 1.30am Friday and Saturday nights. Round the corner, Bar Spuntino, Vordere Metzggasse 4, is a paninoteca with a huge range of hot and cold paninis for Fr.5–8, as well as pasta dishes for Fr.12. Up on the east bank of the Limmat is the Schloss Schartenfels (056/426 19 27; closed Tues), an 1894 folly now housing a gourmet restaurant with terrace overlooking the town. For drinking, check out Stadttor on Schlossbergplatz, a cosy local watering hole. Gasthof zum Wilden Mann, Oberegasse 33, has a super-hip bar replete with candles, sofas and more than its fair share of floppy haircuts.
