Montreux’s star-studded Jazz Festival – featuring world-famous artists from REM to B.B. King – takes place in early July and covers the gamut of music from around the world, these days only loosely committed to formal jazz. For tickets (Fr.40–100), check www.montreuxjazz.com well in advance; otherwise, just join the street parties and free entertainment which spring up all over town, and stay in to watch the concerts on late-night TV. Montreux’s other big jamboree is late April’s Golden Rose Television Festival (Rose d’Or), for which swarms of media folk descend on the town.
