The Swiss-German speaking, protestant political capital of Switzerland and one of its biggest cantons, Bern is a quiet place, not unlike Ottawa. The people are often bilingual in French and German. Once the mightiest of all Swiss cantons, Bern now owes a great part of its importance to its central role in Switzerland’s political life, and is a quiet and pleasant place even if it does not head most business people’s top destination list.
