Conditions to retire in Switzerland

Wealthy retired people are welcome to live in Switzerland, and cantons and cities compete with each other to attract them.

You can check below if you fit the criteria:

  • Be over 55 (if you are younger and retired, there is a different program)
  • Be retired (no day-to-day responsibilities)
  • Have an annual income of more than Sfr.100'000.-
  • You will live in Switzerland a minimum of 180 days a year (total time)

The residence permit you will obtain is a B permit, and it will allow you to:

  • Live in Switzerland
  • Buy a house or apartment for your own use
  • Bring your spouse and minor children with you
