Martigny’s station is at the northeastern end of Avenue de la Gare, which cuts a broad swathe through the centre. At the other end, 500m away, is the main Place Centrale, with the tourist office on one side (July & Aug Mon–Fri 9am–6pm, Sat 9am–noon & 2–6pm, Sun 10am–noon & 4–6pm; Sept–June Mon–Fri 9am–noon & 1.30–6pm, Sat 9am–noon; May, June, Sept & Oct also Sat 2–5pm; 027/721 22 20). They’re well equipped with information and maps for the whole area, including the routes up to the Grand-St-Bernard pass and Verbier, and the Val de Bagnes. The Fondation Gianadda is on Rue du Forum about 500m south of Place Centrale, well signposted. The small Old Town, or Bourg, is a world apart, with cobbled lanes, old auberges and a villagey atmosphere, 1.5km southwest of the centre.
