Home > Tourist Guide > Table of contents > Travel basics > Insurance > Australian & New Zealand cover

Travel insurance is available from most travel agents or direct from insurance companies, for periods ranging from a few days to a year or even longer. Most policies are similar in premium and coverage. A typical policy covering medical costs, lost baggage and personal liability will start at about: A$100/NZ$110 for two weeks, A$170/NZ$190 for one month. These are over-the-Internet prices; add about A$30/NZ$40 for over-the-counter insurance. Most policies cover recreational skiing and snowboarding, rafting and bungee jumping, but check the fine print first. If you intend to partake in “high-risk activities” such as paragliding, abseiling or rock climbing, expect to pay an added premium of around A$90–150/NZ$110–190, depending on the activity. Note that some insurers no long cover canyoning.
