Lady Diana

(Diana, Spencer / 1961-1997 / ) UK

The Princess of Wales lived for two years in Switzerland, and she returned every year for her winter holidays. Born in 1961 in Sandringham, Diana Spencer was the youngest daughter of Viscount Althorp. After her parents' divorce in 1969, she lived with her brothers and sisters and their father in Park House, close to Sandringham.

Diana Spencer demonstrated a flair for dance and music. She left West Heath boarding school towards the end of 1976 for a prestigious Swiss finishing school: the Institut Alpin Videmanette in Rougemont. She finished her studies in 1978 and then left for London, where she worked as a school mistress.

Charles, the Prince of Wales, who was a neighbor in Sandringham, asked for her hand in marriage. The ceremony took place on July 29, 1981, in front of over 100 million television viewers. Lady Diana was the first English noblewoman to marry an heir to the throne in 300 years and immediately became very popular. Every winter, the royal couple spent their holidays at Klosters in the Graudunden.

Lady Diana gave birth to two children, William and Henry, in 1982 and 1984. Simply adored by her millions of fans, the Princess of Wales made herself known through public appearances and travels throughout the world. Her work with charitable organizations brought her even closer to the public, especially in her fight against antipersonnel mines with the Red Cross.

In 1992, Charles and Diana announced their decision to separate and the divorce was made final in 1996. And yet Lady Diana did not lose any of her media attraction. She often returned to Switzerland with her new friend, Dodi al-Fayed, who owned a house in Gstaad. Lady Diana died in 1997, in a car accident in Paris.
